BIOGRAPHY
Pianist Ingrid Barancoski holds a prominent position in the Brazilian contemporary music scene. Her repertoire includes pieces from all stylistic periods, with a special interest in contemporary music. She premiered more than 40 musical works, most of them dedicated to her by renowned contemporary Brazilian composers like Almeida Prado, Ricardo Tacuchian, Roberto Victorio, Guilherme Bernstein, and Orlando Alves.
Ingrid Barancoski performs frequently as a solo pianist and as chamber musician. As a soloist, she has played with different orchestras such as the Culture Symphony, Symphonic Orchestra of the State of Minas Gerais, University of Arizona Orchestra, Chamber Orchestra of Curitiba, UNIRIO Symphonic Orchestra and the Brazilian National Symphony Orchestra. As a chamber musician she has been sharing the stage with acclaimed musicians such as Doriana Mendes, Martha Herr and Marilia Vargas (sopranos), Constanza Prado (violinist), Miriam Grosman (pianist) and Vitor Diniz (flutist). She is part of the Scherzo Trio with musicians Erick Soares (Flutist) and Jessé Máximo Pereira (viola player). Her numerous solo recitals include one in the series Dame Myra Hess Memorial (Chicago, USA), and also performances in different states and capital cities in Brazil, as well as recitals in Mexico, Venezuela, Italy, and the United States. She has also recorded programs for MEC radio station in Rio de Janeiro, in the series Música e músicos do Brazil (Brazilian Music and Musicians) and Sala de concerto (Concert Hall).
Ingrid Barancoski earned her Doctor of Musical Arts degree from the University of Arizona (Piano Performance/Music Theory), and her Master of Arts from Eastern Illinois University. Her doctorate degree was supported by a prestigious fellowship from Brazilian government, and for her Master degree she received a assistantship from Eastern Illinois University, where she worked as accompanist for the string and wind musicians. She also participated in celebrated festivals such as the Cliburn Piano Institute (USA) and Centre Acanthes (France). She has won numerous awards in national and international competitions, including The President’s Competition (University of Arizona, USA) and the IBLA Grand Prize (Ragusa-Ibla, Italy).
Among the festivals Dr. Barancoski has participated in Brazil, both as a lecturer and/or a piano performer, are: The International Music Festival of Campina Grande, the Virtuosi Festival, Oficina de Música de Curitiba (the Curitiba Music Workshop), The Arts Festival at UFPR, the Winter Festival in Rio the Janeiro, the Cello Encounter, the Chamber Music Festival of Curitiba and the Biennial Festival of Brazilian Contemporary Music, in Rio de Janeiro and in Cuiaba. She often teaches master classes and gives lectures in Brazil and abroad. In 2014 she taught master classes and lectured about the music of Brazilian composer Almeida Prado, at the School of Music in Karlsruhe, Germany. She has also participated in national and international conferences such as ANPPOM (Brazil), the International Conference of the College Music Society (Buenos Aires, Argentina), the IV International Symposium on Latin American Music (University of Arizona, USA), and the Music & Moving Image 2014 (New York University, USA). Dr. Barancoski has numerous articles published in music periodicals. Her research interests include aesthetics of contemporary music, pedagogical use of contemporary repertoire, idiomatic writing in contemporary pianism, and the use of corporal consciousness techniques in pianistic performance.
Dr. Barancoski has been a faculty member of the Villa-Lobos Institute and the Graduate Music Program at UNIRIO (Federal University of the state of Rio de Janeiro) since 1998. She teaches piano performance, chamber music, piano pedagogy, music history and piano literature. From November 2015 through August 2016 she she was a visiting researcher at the University of Southampton (United Kingdom), with a grant from Brazilian government (CAPES) for postdoctoral research. Her subject was the correspondence between the Brazilian composer Almeida Prado and the French teacher Nadia Boulanger. Dr. Barancoski also gave lectures, workshops and recitals at the university. In 2018, she created and coordinated the symposium Almeida Prado 75 years in UNIRIO. The events included concerts, conferences, and a film exhibition to celebrate the 75th aniversary of the composer. Among the speakers were the the major scholars on this topic such as Manoel Correa do Lago, Sara Cohen, and Salomea Gandelman. Ingrid Barancoski also participated as musician and lecturer.
